Comments:

After graduating from the Academy, I attended Waldorf College for one year and then transferred to South Dakota State University. I graduated in 1970 with a degree in Home Economics Education. Jim and I were married in August of that year and we both continued our education at Iowa State University. I finished my M.S. degree in Family Environment (Housing and Household Equipment) in 1972 and taught in Estelline, SD for part of a year while Jim was overseas on the USS Kitty Hawk near the end of the Vietnam War. In December of 1972 we moved to California where Jim was stationed at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard in San Francisco until July of 1973. Then it was back to Ames so Jim could complete his M.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering. In 1974 we moved to Vinton, IA for two years and then Armstrong, IA for eight years before moving to Mankato, MN in 1984. I worked for the school system in Vinton and did some adult education in Scandinavian Foods and Crafts while in Armstrong. It has been my privilege to primarily be a stay-at-home mom and volunteer, but I did have a couple of teaching stints here in Mankato at the local university and technical college in Family and Consumer Science. I have been a volleyball mom through the girls' high school and college years. I have also been blessed to go through the series in Bible Study Fellowship (Jim as well) and am presently in Precepts classes. Both of us are involved in our church choir, AWANA, small group ministry, and hosting senior high youth. I also am a team leader for our Woman to Woman Mentoring Ministry. My other activities/interests include Moms In Touch prayer group, P.E.O. - an organization that promotes educational opportunities for women, adult conditioning/walking, traveling to visit the kids (we're planning on Japan in 2009) and crafts (most recently back to quilting). God has been so faithful all these years, especially with the gift of meeting my life partner at the Academy.

School Story:

My fondest memories are dorm life, choir tours and the weekend we were snowed in at Astoria, Mr. Boyum's parties, homecoming, Advent concerts, and the special friendships made. (I still find it amazing that Mrs. Ellefson was in on the toilet-papering of the campus our senior year.)
